Allantoin is a white powder, tasteless and odorless. Melting point 230°C(dec.)(lit.), boiling point 283.17°C(roughestimate), density 1.6031(roughestimate), refractive index 1.8500(estimate), flash point 230-234°C, solubility H2O:0.1g/10mL, acid Degree coefficient (pKa)8.96(at25ºC).
Pure product is a non-toxic, tasteless, non-irritating, non-allergic white crystal, crystallized in water as a single prism or colorless crystalline powder. Soluble in hot water, hot alcohol and dilute solution. Slightly soluble in room temperature water and alcohol, insoluble in ether and other organic solvents; Its saturated aqueous solution (concentration 0.6%) is slightly acidic. Stable in aqueous solution with PH 4-9. Stable in non-aqueous solvents and dry air.

Allantoin is a chemical compound with formula C4H6N4O3. It is also called 5-ureidohydantoin or glyoxyldiureide. It is a diureide of glyoxylic acid. Allantoin is a major metabolic intermediate in most organisms including animals, plants and bacteria. It is produced from uric acid, which itself is a degradation product of nucleic acids, by action of urate oxidase (uricase).The occurs as a natural mineral compound (IMA symbol Aan).
